Borgo Giuliano

Born in the fascist period, the Giuliano village is presented in a state of total abandonment determined precisely by the philosophy that dictated the birth of some rural villages especially in Sicily. Not houses for peasants but for the petty bourgeoisie (church, school, post office) which was supposed to support the surrounding area. "... small functionalist capital without hardship and without plebeian heaviness..." Carlo Emilio Gadda defined them with effective synthesis in "The new anthology". The name to remember one of the many poor soldiers, Salvatore Giuliano, sent into jeopardy to die in the land of Abyssinia to satisfy the vainglory of the leader. Even then, as unfortunately often happens today in Sicily, after a formal and solemn inauguration in the presence of Minister Tassinari, the village was soon abandoned. Today it is inhabited by ghosts who raise the dust of time in the scorched afternoons.
